This is the agreement between We Member Me and you: what happens to what you write, what isn't allowed, and what we do when something is reported. We've tried to keep it plain.
1. What these terms are
By using We Member Me ("we", "us" or "the service") you agree to these terms, including the community rules in them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
These terms are available in Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean. If the versions differ, the English version applies.
2. Who can use it
- You must be 13 or over. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree and is responsible for your use.
- For now, the service is by invitation. Family admins invite and manage members.
- If we have suspended you, you may not use a new account to get around that decision.
3. Your account and spaces
You sign in with your email. Keep your email and devices secure; you are responsible for what is done with your account.
Each space (family) has admins. Admins can invite and suspend members and decide whether the space may share outside the family. Admins cannot see memories that others have set to private or to tagged people only.
4. Your content is yours
You (or the original rights holder) keep ownership of the words, photos and recordings you add.
So that we can run the service, you give us a worldwide, free, non-exclusive licence to store, process (for example, making thumbnails and turning recordings into text), back up and display your content, only to the people you choose. The licence ends when you delete the content; backups are cleared within a reasonable time, unless the law or section 8 requires us to keep them.
- We don't sell your content or personal data.
- We don't sell advertising.
- We don't train AI models on your content.
We use Cloudflare's cloud services to store and process content (including turning recordings into text); they process it only on our instructions.
You must have the right to add what you add, and it must not break the law or these rules.
5. Who can see your content
You choose who sees each memory: the whole family, only the people tagged, only you, or (if the family allows it) anyone with the link.
We don't look through your family's content. We look at a specific item, and only that item, when:
- someone who can already see it reports it;
- the law requires us to; or
- you ask us to help with a technical problem.
Every look after a report is recorded in that family's activity log, which its admins can see (without showing who reported it).
6. Community rules: what is not allowed
The following is not allowed on the service, whether it's private, within a family or public:
- Harm to children: any sexual content involving children, or content that puts a child in danger. Zero tolerance.
- Intimate images without consent: nude or sexual photos or videos shared without the consent of the people in them, and other pornographic content.
- Violence: threats, promoting violence, or encouraging self-harm or suicide.
- Bullying and harassment: insulting, humiliating, stalking or repeatedly targeting someone, including between former partners.
- Hate speech: attacking people for their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, age and similar.
- Privacy: sharing someone's address, phone number, ID numbers, medical or financial details or private photos without their consent.
- Impersonation: pretending to be someone else, or misleading people into thinking you represent a person or organisation.
- Infringement: using work that someone else holds the copyright to without permission.
- Scams and abuse: fraud, spam, malware, or trying to break into or disrupt the service.
- Illegal content: anything against the law of Hong Kong or where you are.
7. Writing about other people
Remembering family, friends and people who have died is what this place is for. We ask you to:
- treat the people you write about with respect, including those who have died and their families;
- get the consent of the people in a photo, or their family, before making a memory public;
- share photos of children with family freely, but think twice before making them public, and don't reveal schools, addresses or whereabouts;
- use a pet's shared-care space for the pet, never to contact or harass the other person.
8. Reports and what we do
Anyone who can see something can report it: members tap "Report" next to a memory or comment; people with a share link use "Report this" at the bottom of the page.
How we handle reports:
- Harm to children, intimate images and threats of violence are urgent: we deal with them first and aim to look within 24 hours. We aim to handle other reports within 7 days.
- We look at the reported item and any context we need, then decide according to how serious it is.
- The author is never told who reported them. Members who report are told the outcome.
- If someone is in immediate danger, call the emergency services (999 in Hong Kong). We are not an emergency service.
What we can do, from lightest to most serious:
- Dismiss: it does not break the rules.
- Stop outside sharing: public and share links are cancelled; the family can still see it.
- Remove: only the author can see it, and they can still export it.
- Keep as evidence: in serious cases (for example involving children or crime) we keep the content, stop it being edited or deleted, and may pass it to the police or other authorities.
- Lock outside sharing: the whole space temporarily cannot share outside the family.
- Suspend: for serious or repeated breaches, we can suspend the account in every space.
Unless the law forbids it or it would put someone at risk, we tell the author what we did and why.
9. Appeals
If you think we got it wrong, you can appeal once, within 30 days of the decision. A person will look again and tell you the result.
If we got it wrong, we restore the content and undo what we did.
10. Copyright
If you believe someone has used work you hold the copyright to, report it and choose "Copyright infringement", saying which work it is, how it is yours and how to reach you. The author can object through an appeal.
11. The service, prices and changes
The basic service is free. Any paid plan will show its price and what it includes before you pay.
We may improve or change the service. We will tell you in the app at least 30 days before any significant change, including to these terms, and you will need to agree again to carry on.
12. Leaving and ending
You can stop at any time and export your content.
We may end your use for serious or repeated breaches of these terms. If we ever close the service, we will give at least 60 days' notice so you can export your content.
13. Liability
We work hard to keep your content safe and the service running, but it is provided "as is". Please keep your own copies of anything important.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Hong Kong SAR, and disputes are handled by the Hong Kong courts. If consumer law where you live gives you more protection, that protection still applies.
15. Contact us
For questions, reports or legal requests, use "Report" in the app or on a share link page; if nothing fits, choose "Something else" and tell us.
